1. Design Principles
This layout is inspired by the print style of Edward Tufte. It values high legibility, clean serif text, and side-channel notes rather than footnotes. Empty space is allocated to the margins to contain references and notes.Sidenote 1: Edward Tufte is famous for data visualization and book layouts that prioritize clean reading grids.
2. Data Grids
Tables use thin hairline borders and alignment principles. Vertical lines are excluded entirely, relying on whitespace to define column groups.
| Aesthetic Element | Value Profile | Ratio Index |
|---|---|---|
| Whitespace Density | High (30%+) | 1.45 |
| Font Weight | Light (200-400) | 0.82 |
| Border Width | Hairline (0.5-1px) | 1.00 |
3. Margin Layouts
Notes can reside inline on mobile displays, but transition into floating columns on wide viewports.Sidenote 2: Dragging the viewport size below 768px triggers the media query to collapse margin notes inline.
