Universal anti-patterns
Never narrate the arrival or shape of a thought or feeling. Do not write that an answer "came sideways," a question "sat down and waited," or something "settled" in a character. Write the thought or the feeling directly.
Never explain an emotional conclusion and then re-explain it with a metaphor. Land it once and move.
Do not announce that a character has realized something. Show what they do or think immediately after.
Do not use vagueness to imply depth. If you cannot say the specific thing, find the specific thing.
